What does “college prep” really mean?
I taught at a university for 15 years before embarking on a career in counseling. The biggest trend I saw over that span was a decrease in student agency and well-being. Many of my students were excellent writers and dedicated learners. They could perform academically, but they were… miserable.
It’s no secret that Generation Z is one of the most depressed and anxious generations we’ve ever seen. The reasons for this are varied and complex. And yet, the transition from adolescent to adult is still one full of enormous possibility and hope.
Counseling during this unique transition is a gift. It gives young people a chance to explore what they really want from their college experience, and what they really want from life. For life.
